They dont require soaking and all have the right balance of being hard enough yet give nice feedback that some medium hard natural stones have made them easy to use and enjoy. For polishing the 4000, 6000 and 12000 grit give very strong contrast of hard and soft steel, with the hard steel becoming bright with the soft steel looking thick
