The detail is exceptional, with wonderfully intricate architectural detail and striking use of perspective. All done with micro tesserae: tiny piece of coloured glass set over a black background. It dates from the mid 19th century, set into an 18 carat gold brooch mount with French control marks for 18ct gold.
