يعتبر الشاعر أحمد الشارف من اكبر شعراء ليبيا في ذلك الوقت، فكانَ يطلق عليه اسم شيخ الشعراء، وشاعر القطرية، أي طرابلس وبرقة، وقد عمر الشاعر على درب الحياة 85 عاما، حيث توفي عام 1959، ولكنه عمر أكثر بأعماله الخالدة باعتباره أحد الأدباء الذين ساهموا بقسط وافر في الحركة الأدبية التي شهدتها البلاد الليبية في ذلك الوقت
