This plate was recovered by the last signalman working the box when is closed

The previous owner said he had recovered it from  Cashmores scrapyard when the loco was being cut up

Its purpose was to illuminate the gauge glass at night time to  allow the firemen to see the boiler water level

The orange band at the base identifies is easily and a 4 aspect handlamp

This plate measures 4 3 4" X 1 1 2".
